Me Things
Finally, a Pair of Shoes!

Sometimes, I shop impulsively and I hate myself when I do that!
Because I really wanted (bordering on desperation) to buy a comfy pair of shoes that I can abuse, I ended up buying something I’m not sure if I will love or regret.
It’s Merrell’s Allegro flat shoes in brown/taupe suede. Here’s what they look like:

What I like about them:
- They feel comfortable. This is important because I really want something I can wear for long walks at the mall and anywhere else.
- They have a neutral color (brown). Another essential criteria because I intend to use them frequently, so they obviously need to match most of my clothes.
- They’re made of high quality material and durable. Something that I can count on for years to come.
- The saleslady who sold me to them mentioned something about QForm Comfort technology, which according to Merrell’s website is their own patented alignment system that provides specific stride-sequenced cushioning. Sounds exactly what I was looking for.
What I don’t like about it:
- The outer material is suede. I’m not a suede person and to this day, I still can’t fully understand why I bought the shoes despite of the predominantly suede material. I’m sure this unexplainable phenomena happened to some of you, too. Maybe I was hypnotized into buying them. Or maybe I was just so desperate for a new pair of flats. Suede looks dirty and old even when it’s not (my shoes do, look at the photo below), that’s why I don’t like it. And now I’m asking myself “It’s suede, why did you buy it?”

- They’re way over my budget. I intended to spend nothing more than P2,000 (~$45) for a new pair of shoes. The first Merrell pair that I tried and liked was this mesh-fabric design:
Unfortunately, they only have it in pink. Pink is okay, but as I said, I was looking for something more neutral (if only they have it in white like the one in the photo above, *sighs*). The pink Merrell Allegro costs P2,700++ (~$61). I was convincing myself that comfort would give justice to the extra P700 that I need to shell out. Then I saw the same shoe design on their New Arrivals display. Only, it was brown suede. I tried them, and it wasn’t long before I found myself paying for them. But I was surprised that they cost P3,200++ (~$72), P500 more expensive than the pink flats.
Actually, it was my fault because I didn’t check the tag before I decided to buy the shoes. I just assumed that since both pairs have the same design, their prices are the same. I forgot to take note that the suede one was supposedly a “new design”, hence the higher price tag.
- They’re boring. I understand that having a neutral color can look plain and ordinary. But after looking at them for a while, I feel they don’t look good anymore–don’t look like they’re worth that much anyway. Then a week later, I allowed myself to a little shoe window-shopping, and there I found the flats that I should have bought. The cute and pocket-friendly ballet flats that address my need for comfort, style and flexibility. I could buy three pairs of these ballet flats for the price of my Merrell shoes.
And that’s where regret comes in.
But what’s bought is bought. No sense in fantasizing what I could have bought with the money instead. So I guess, the relevant question now is “How were the shoes?”
I have used them once, and we did quite a walk that day. They’re fairly comfortable, although I feel that I may have to break in them before I get the “comfort” that I paid for. Other than that, they seem promising.
But still a little boring, yes.
Found the Perfect Ballet Flats But…

After fancying a new bag, I’m currently longing for a new pair of shoes, ballerina flats in particular. But unlike a new bag, I think this one is a necessity so I’m more likely to make the purchase. I really want to give my feet a treat–something stylish but comfortable–because for the longest time, they endured blisters and torture from my other shoes that hurt a lot when worn for long periods. So for weeks now, I’ve been salivating over Crocs flats. I know they are a bit costly (I can probably buy 3 pairs of shoes for the price of a pair of Crocs flats) but I’m willing to pay the price knowing that my feet won’t ache even if I spend the whole day walking. But I just don’t have the time and enough will to go to the nearest Crocs retailer yet (which is still very far from my place).
But then last Sunday, while hubby and I were strolling at a local shopping mall, we wandered casually at the shoe section and there, something caught my attention: those cute, colorful, jelly flats from Grendha. They look so adorable and immediately, I grabbed a shoe and tried it on. It was too big for me so I asked for the smallest size, a size 5 (33/34). But my heart sank because the smallest is still one size too big for my teeny-weeny foot. Despite this, I lingered for a while, hoping something–other than sandals and flip flops–would be small enough to fit my foot. Unfortunately, none did.
They’re perfect–lovely, casual and comfortable for half the price of Crocs flats. Too bad, they don’t have my size but I’m not giving up yet. Maybe a shoe cushion or something will fix the problem. I’ve used some of those in my other shoes that are slightly bigger than my size. I just need to go back there and bring one to see if it can do the trick. And I really hope it will.
For now, I’m sharing you the styles that I gaped at. I am no Imelda Marcos but I perfectly understand why women go crazy about shoes. I haven’t gotten over how cute these looked on my foot.

Do I Need a New Bag?
On 08, Aug 2010 | 5 Comments | In Me Stuff, Me Things | By Sheng
I used to be a bag lover. Actually, I still am. But since I started working online, I haven’t bought myself a new one yet. I’m always hesitating because I really don’t go out as often as before and I feel that bags are more like a luxury than a necessity for me now. All my previous bags were just collecting dusts in the closet so I had to give them away because I rarely use them.
But sometimes, I think of retiring my old canvas tote bag. It served me years already, and for the last couple of years, it’s the only bag that I used wherever I go. Although, I haven’t really decided when will I make that purchase. The tote bag is old, but not worn-out old and I still love using it. Or maybe it’s because I haven’t found an apt replacement yet. Something as functional and as versatile and will fit my current lifestyle, which is pretty much stay-at-home with occasional trips to the mall.
So if I do buy a new bag, what will it be?
Hmm, I have a preference for satchels and totes, especially white-colored ones or those with very striking colors. Leather or canvas, it doesn’t matter as long as it looks sturdy and don’t get dirty fast. I love bags with characters, and if I were to choose, these will definitely top my lists. I’m just not sure if they can play the all-around bag role. But they are really beautiful.
I suddenly miss shopping for bags.
